Up until a few weeks ago, vice presidential candidate Congresswoman Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo was behind in the polls. Way ahead of her then were Senators Francis “Chiz” Escudero and Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. who were at a statistical dead heat.  But the latest polls surprised a lot of the power brokers who have shrugged her off as a “spoiler.”  Not anymore.  Indeed, if the elections were held today, she’d win over Bongbong and Chiz, which makes one wonder: Why the sudden voters’ interest in Leni? I chose this title because of the parallelism with what is now happening in the Philippine Community Council of New South Wales. One by one, an island guest is found dead and the number of people in the island start dwindling just as the number of affiliates in PCC-NSW are fast disappearing. (more…)

The US Navy has deployed a small armada to the disputed islands in the South China Sea, according to The Navy Times.

America’s USS John C. Stennis aircraft carrier, destroyers Chung-Hoon and Stockdale, cruisers Antietam and Mobile Bay, and Japan’s Blue Ridge were deployed after China installed HQ-9 surface-to-air missiles on Woody Island, one of the most central swathes of land in the disputed waters. (more…)

MANILA, Philippines — Former WWII enemies are now allies against China. Ironically, China, USA, and the Philippines were allies against Japan during WWII. The Philippine defence chief said his government has signed an accord with Japan to allow Tokyo to supply military equipment to Manila in the first such Japanese defence pact in Southeast Asia.
