Cast and production members of ‘Her Son, Jose Rizal’ met with Philippine icon, award-winning singer and actress Lea Salonga, at an intimate gathering and dinner in Sydney.

Ms Salonga was in Sydney until Sunday, June 13, to rehearse for the Manila production of “Cats (Now and Forever)”. She is to play the cat, ‘Grizabella’, alongside an international cast in a month long performance at the Main Theater of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) starting July 24. (more…)

FOUR members of the cast of upcoming stage play, His Son, Jose Rizal, detailed their impressions on their roles last week.

Ala Paredes, who plays Rizal’s younger sister ‘Soledad’; Manny Diel, who plays the main character ‘Jose Rizal’; Kate Andres, who plays Rizal’s mother ‘Teodora’, and Bob Mendoza, who plays Teodora’s confessor-confidant ‘Father Leonico Lopez’ went on radio last week to air their impressions.

In a special twist to interviewing on Radio Sandigan, Ms Paredes led the talk segment on the cast as interviewer. In describing her feelings about ‘Soledad’, she said it impressed her that ‘Soledad’ was a woman ahead of her time and not the typical docile woman of those days. (more…)

RJ Rosales, one of the Filipino community’s best loved sons, will be returning to Sydney on June 2010 to star in the maiden offering of Fine Artists Collaboration, “Her Son, Jose Rizal.”

This two-hour play “Her Son, Jose Rizal” written by Leonor Orosa-Goquingco is scheduled on June 17 18, 19 of June from 7:00pm plus a matinee performance on 20 June at 2:00pm at Tom Mann Theatre, 136-140 Chalmers Street, Surry Hills. (more…)

The cast of the late Leonor Orosa Goquinco’s one-act stage play, “Her son, Jose Rizal,” went into rehearsals in earnest on Sunday, April 11, at a makeshift stage in Hiyas Ng Bayan Child Care Centre, Mount Pritchard southwest of Sydney.

The play on the life of Rizal covers his childhood and significant events before his execution by a Spanish firing squad. It goes through the arrest of his mother Teodora by civil guards, a fiesta scene with the Governor General, Rizal’s cell detention and his farewell to his mother. (more…)
