Eight years ago, Liezle came to Australia to study nursing on the strength of a student’s visa. Somewhere along the line, she met Michael Antonio. They eventually fell in love and got married.

As a student, Liezle was entitled to work a maximum of 20 hours a week. She got herself employed in a nursing home. Somehow, Liezle managed to make both ends meet on the meager income she made as a working student. (more…)

Federal Member for Chifley Roger Price announced (that) the Federal Government would spend $50,000 in support for newly-arrived migrants and refugees.

Through the Government’s Diverse Australia Program, Blacktown Arts Centre’s African Theatre Education Kit will bring to life a play written over two years by a Sudanese youth group.

“This Australian Government funding will allow the Centre to professionally film the play and develop an education resource kit for western Sydney high schools,” Mr Price said. (more…)

It has been for several months now that Liezle Antonio, a registered nurse has been out of work, since she received a notice from the Department of Immigrations that her Student’s Visa has been cancelled. As a former international student at the Australian Catholic University, she was allowed to work a maximum of 20 hours a week.

While studying, she met Michael, who is now her husband. The young couple has a 6 month old baby. Through the endorsement of Immigrations, the family now receives $1,000 per fortnight from the Australian Red Cross. (more…)
