Two members of APSL Inc. have filed a court suit of defamation against Philippine Tribune and its editor Dino Crescini. The Statement of Claim was personally delivered on 7 August 2008 to the latter’s office by one of the plaintiffs, Cresencio Pilao who is the incumbent Commander of Australia Philippines Services League. He was accompanied by a certain Ricardo Gerial of Quakers Hill. The other plaintiff is Arturo Sayas. Both Pilao and Sayas are reportedly ex-servicemen of the Philippine Air Force.

Natalie Coughlin, 24, of San Francisco, California, successfully defended her Olympic title by winning the Gold Medal in the 100 Meter Backstroke Event in the Beijing Olympics. She also won Silver in the 400 Metre Relay the day before. She won this 100 Metre Backstroke Event in 2004 in the Athens Olympics. It’s her specialty.

Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and Prime Minister Kevin Rudd were among the 90 world leaders who went to Beijing to watch the August 8 opening ceremonies of the 29th Olympics Games.

The heads of state were officially received by Chinese President Hu Jintao in a lavish state luncheon. President Arroyo shared the table of President Hu, Madam Liu Xonqing, and 26 world leaders, who included President George Bush, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, French President Nicolas Sarkozy, Japanese Prime Minister Fukuda Yasuo, and Malaysian King Tuanku Mizai Zainal Abidin.

Consumers follow a single mindset of cutting down expenses in times of crisis. This is not entirely true. Being a brand works well in a period of crisis, especially when the cards are played correctly. When a brand’s value and messaging is especially relevant, buyers are willing to buy new products, trade up and buy more. For example, owners of luxury cars are bound to purchase more fuel-efficient cars from trusted automobile makers; indulgent buyers are likely to trade up, impulse-buy or buy more expensive items provided these have socially relevant messages; and the middle income may just advance their purchases or do “group-purchase” for household items, etc.

The council election will provide an opportunity for a new direction by Council, Independent Ward One candidate Cr. Allan Green said. “Labor has dominated the Council for over seventeen years and they have run out of new ideas and have neglected major needs of the city.”

“The Blacktown CBD has been allowed to fall behind other western Sydney CBD’s in terms of the lack of new development and a loss of commercial office worker jobs. “The City also has a massive backlog of works which need to be completed and Labor has done little to find ways to fund the works. The city needs much more help from the State and Federal Governments to fund essential works,” according to Cr. Allan Green.
