{"id":1553,"date":"2011-11-06T18:29:49","date_gmt":"2011-11-06T08:29:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.philippinesentinel.org\/?p=1553"},"modified":"2011-11-06T18:29:49","modified_gmt":"2011-11-06T08:29:49","slug":"australia-helps-filipino-families-affected-by-floods","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.philippinesentinel.org\/?p=1553","title":{"rendered":"Australia helps Filipino families affected by floods"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Australia is helping to deliver critical assistance to families affected by the flood crisis in the Philippines.<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Australian Government today announced that our country would provide blankets, mosquito nets, hygiene kits, water containers, kitchen sets, sandbags and health services to the eight  million people in desperate need across the Mekong and the Philippines.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Federal Member for Chifley, Ed Husic  announced Australia\u2019s commitment of foreign aid to our flood effected neighbours.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany communities have been devastated by major flooding and there is a real of disease from contaminated water supplies and damaged sanitation systems,\u201d Mr Husic said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know the local Filipino community has been rallying to raise funds to help loved ones in the Philippines recover from this disaster.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was delighted to be able to join with the community last Friday at Bowman Hall for the Lift Off Hip Hop Festival \u2013 which helped raise much needed funds for victims of these terrible events.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Australian support will be directed through partner organisations with a track record in providing disaster response and recovery services in the most affected areas and to the most vulnerable people. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Australia is helping to deliver critical assistance to families affected by the flood crisis in the Philippines.
