Hometown girl and aspiring singer Krizza Neri, who hails from Tablon district, topped the GMA 7 reality talent search \u201cProt\u00e9g\u00e9\u201d\u2014 besting finalists Lovely Embuscado from Davao and Lirah Bermudez from Iloilo and other contestants from all over the archipelago.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Neri, however, considers the victory bitter-sweet. She had just returned to Manila from a triumphant homecoming (last December 12 and 13) when Tropical Storm \u201cSendong\u201d struck\u2014leaving over 700 people dead and 900 missing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s devastating. My heart is broken,\u201d admitted the 16-year-old International Relations student from Xavier University.<\/p>\n<p>She\u2019s too sad to celebrate, she said\u2014especially since she lost an uncle who died in a car crash at the height of the storm.<\/p>\n<p>Until now, she still has no idea whether her family\u2019s house in Tablon, in the outskirts of the city, was spared from the floods.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLuckily, the rest of my family is safe,\u201d she told Inquirer.net Sunday night, minutes after the contest.<\/p>\n<p>She promised to share her winnings, which include P1 million in cash, with her kababayans in Cagayan de Oro. \u201cI want to serve as volunteer in the relief efforts of the Philippine Red Cross and the Kapuso Foundation when I return home this week.\u201d \u2014 (Bayani San Diego)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MANILA, Philippines \u2014Just days after deadly flash floods hit Cagayan de Oro, the capital city of Misamis Oriental finds a small reason to celebrate.
