{"id":2036,"date":"2012-07-02T02:34:50","date_gmt":"2012-07-01T16:34:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.philippinesentinel.org\/?p=2036"},"modified":"2012-07-02T02:34:50","modified_gmt":"2012-07-01T16:34:50","slug":"extra-cash-for-young-locals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.philippinesentinel.org\/?p=2036","title":{"rendered":"Extra cash for young locals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>More than 3,400 local students and young people in training are set to get some extra cash from the Gillard Government, with new payments hitting households from this week.<\/p>\n<p>Federal Member for Chifley <strong>Ed Husic<\/strong>, said people on Youth Allowance, ABSTUDY or Austudy would soon receive a lump sum payment in their bank accounts, ahead of the introduction of the carbon price on 1 July. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cLocal students and young people in training will get up to $190 to help them keep up with living costs now and over the coming months,\u201d Mr Husic said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you\u2019re at university, TAFE, or out learning a trade, it can be tough to keep on top of things. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis extra support should give our young people a bit of extra breathing space.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>From 1 July, the tax-free threshold will be tripled to $18,200, giving more<br \/>\nthan 58,000 workers a tax cut, with most getting at least $300 extra in their pockets every year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know many students here are working a part-time job to help manage the bills, and we want to do what we can to make sure they are keeping more of the money they earn,\u201d Mr Husic said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cTripling the tax-free threshold means a lot of our students who are working a few hours between classes will no longer have to pay any tax at all. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd they will no longer have to worry about filling out a tax return.
