{"id":2162,"date":"2012-10-03T04:23:09","date_gmt":"2012-10-02T18:23:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.philippinesentinel.org\/?p=2162"},"modified":"2012-10-03T04:23:09","modified_gmt":"2012-10-02T18:23:09","slug":"another-filipino-to-be-canonized-this-month","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.philippinesentinel.org\/?p=2162","title":{"rendered":"Another Filipino to be canonized this month"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Pedro Calungsod<\/strong> (1654\u2013 April 2, 1672) was a young Roman Catholic Filipino migrant, sacristan and missionary catechist, who along with Blessed Diego Luis de San Vittores, suffered religious persecution and martyrdom in Guam, Marianas Islands  for their missionary work in 1672. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Through Calungsod and San Vittores&#8217; missionary efforts, many native Chamorros converted to Roman Catholicism. <\/p>\n<p>Calungsod was beatified on  March 5, 2000 by Blessed Pope John Paul II.
