A mother who brutally beat her two-year-old daughter and glued her hands to a wall has been sentenced to 99 years in prison \u2014 more than double the 45-year sentence prosecutors sought. <\/p>\n
Dallas mother Elizabeth Escalona, 23, pleaded guilty to felony injury to a child in July but her mother and sister had asked the court for leniency. <\/p>\n
Judge Larry Mitchell said Escalona “savagely beat” her child “to the edge of death” and had to be punished. <\/p>\n
The young mother broke down upon hearing the sentence. The court heard that Escalona kicked her daughter Jocelyn in the stomach, attacked her with a milk jug and used Super Glue to stick her hands to a wall after losing her temper while trying to potty train her. <\/p>\n
The toddler was in a coma for a couple of days after the attack, in which she suffered bleeding in the brain, a fractured rib as well as bruises and bites. <\/p>\n
Prosecutors said the 23-year-old was a bad mother with a history of violent behaviour and was a former gang member. <\/p>\n
Escalona said she deeply regretted her actions and said she would never forgive herself for what she had done to her daughter. <\/p>\n
