{"id":2255,"date":"2012-11-06T19:05:35","date_gmt":"2012-11-06T19:05:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.philippinesentinel.org\/?p=2255"},"modified":"2012-11-06T19:05:35","modified_gmt":"2012-11-06T19:05:35","slug":"99-years-jail-term-for-beating-toddler","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.philippinesentinel.org\/?p=2255","title":{"rendered":"99 years jail term for beating toddler"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A mother who brutally beat her two-year-old daughter and glued her hands to a wall has been sentenced to 99 years in prison \u2014 more than double the 45-year sentence prosecutors sought. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Dallas mother Elizabeth Escalona, 23, pleaded guilty to felony injury to a child in July but her mother and sister had asked the court for leniency. <\/p>\n<p>Judge Larry Mitchell said Escalona &#8220;savagely beat&#8221; her child &#8220;to the edge of death&#8221; and had to be punished. <\/p>\n<p>The young mother broke down upon hearing the sentence. The court heard that Escalona kicked her daughter Jocelyn in the stomach, attacked her with a milk jug and used Super Glue to stick her hands to a wall after losing her temper while trying to potty train her. <\/p>\n<p>The toddler was in a coma for a couple of days after the attack, in which she suffered bleeding in the brain, a fractured rib as well as bruises and bites. <\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors said the 23-year-old was a bad mother with a history of violent behaviour and was a former gang member. <\/p>\n<p>Escalona said she deeply regretted her actions and said she would never forgive herself for what she had done to her daughter. <\/p>\n<p>The toddler has since recovered from her injuries and is now living with her grandmother.
