font-family: 'Arial Narrow'\">On 17 April 2009, Mapua Alumni Australia (MAA) held its first induction of officers, directors and members in a formal ceremony which took place at Crystal Seafood Restaurant at <st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:city w:st=\"on\">Blacktown<\/st1:city>, <st1:state w:st=\"on\">New   South Wales<\/st1:state><\/st1:place>.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Sworn in by the Philippine Vice Consul J. Anthony Reyes, the inductees pledged to help MAA achieve its mission and realize its vision.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 3pt; font-family: 'Arial Narrow'\"><o:p>\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'Arial Narrow'\">The occasion was well-attended by enthusiastic members and supportive family members and friends. It turned out to be a night of friendship, music and laughter. It was the culmination of plans and dreams to form an alumni association in <st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:country-region w:st=\"on\">Australia<\/st1:country-region><\/st1:place> dating several years back.<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 3pt; font-family: 'Arial Narrow'\"><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 3pt; font-family: 'Arial Narrow'\"><o:p>\u00a0<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"msoaddress\" style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'Arial Narrow'\" lang=\"EN-US\">As of May 2009, MAA has 25 financial members and is keen to take advantage of the interest generated among alumni in the region to widen its membership base.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>After the June 2009 meeting of the Board of Directors, MAA will have formulated a short and medium to long term plan to guide its operation from year to year.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>The plan will include strategies and projects that will address membership growth and <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: 'Arial Narrow'\" lang=\"EN-US\">sustenance, education\/scholarship (including<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'Arial Narrow'\" lang=\"EN-US\"> <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: 'Arial Narrow'\" lang=\"EN-US\">continuing education among MAA members), fund raising<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'Arial Narrow'\" lang=\"EN-US\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: 'Arial Narrow'\" lang=\"EN-US\">cooperation\/coordination with MIT, NAMA and the local community with regards to socially-responsive and<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'Arial Narrow'\" lang=\"EN-US\"> <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: 'Arial Narrow'\" lang=\"EN-US\">relevant concerns<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'Arial Narrow'\" lang=\"EN-US\">.<span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: 'Arial Narrow'\" lang=\"EN-US\">MAA aims to be a catalyst for the improvement and progress of the society<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'Arial Narrow'\" lang=\"EN-US\">.
