I’ve had to trade in some original body parts for more modular ones. We are another year older but hopefully, much, much wiser. It’s the year of the Rat… hmmm, wasn’t that last year’s theme? But Chinese astrology promises an auspicious year.

I was invited to two Christmas parties (yippee!) – the Alpha Phi Omega’s anniversary party and the Philippine Health Care Association. The latter, surrounded by medical practitioners and nurses makes me always feel safe. I can dance the night away with Dr. Joe Languido knowing he’ll resuscitate me if I run out of breath.

What was fascinating though was that on both occasions, I was tapped on the shoulder by our readers who asked me to comment on the statements made by Mr. Manny Villon during the MPC press conference last month. I specifically did not attend the media conference because I knew it would not provide any new information and would be a total waste of my time. However, I am compelled to reply to Mr. Villon’s comments.

Mr. Villon claims that the new site is something that can be left “as a legacy to our children’s children.” Now that is an absolute joke! That would be like inheriting a cultural baggage!

And in Mr. Villon’s typical style, he comments “God is so kind to prevent us from finishing that project because He wants us to have a new place.” Now this comment irritates me no end! To use God as an excuse is absolutely pathetic! If God prevented the completion of MPC, it is to show us that we need new leaders.

Mr. Villon further states “The time frame for the completion of the MPC depends again on you.” By you, I guess he means us. “We are under your command,” he adds.

Considering that we did not command them to sell and move, that’s a complete reversal. Now he (they) are under our command? That’s our clue. He slipped! If they (the MPC group) are under our command, well then, please read our lips! Please, pretty please vacate your seats! If it couldn’t be done over 18 years, well, it isn’t going to be done. If nothing has changed with the people with the people running it, then nothing will change. A change of venue is only geography. The problem cannot be resolved by the same people that created the problem in the first place.
ooooOoooo

The dust has settled from the campaign track but some are still suffering from the aftermath. We are now faced with the challenge of finding new blood. I know of some with ambitions but those aspirants will need to need to face the mirror and take a long hard look at themselves before making the dash for the political trail. Some tweaking may be required. Better still, let us mould new leaders.
ooooOoooo
Some thinking person asked me how FILCCA was structured. As far as I know, the presidents of the state councils are automatically members of FILCCA and from this group, the FILCCA president is elected. As in the case Jess Diaz, who resigned as PCC president when he was elected as FILCCA president. Interesting point, however I have not seen or read the FILCCA constitution. If that is true, then Kate Andres, Ric de Vera and even Malyn Chun’s terms are not legitimate because they were not state council presidents at the time they were elected to office. Then again, who knows, somebody may have changed the constitution along the way without telling. We’ll check it out.

ooooOoooo

Ahhhh……Victoria’s secret is out! If you’ve been wondering why Vice Consul, Ferdie Victoria has been walking in a daze? Well, he’s just gotten married and is now off the eligible list.
ooooOoooo

Oh, and by the way, if your phone should ring late at night – don’t bother answering. It’s probably only Rey Manoto phoning around asking you to vote for him as PCC president in the forthcoming elections on 3 February. And you may just end up President of a club with no members!

by Benjie de Ubago Wow….last year sure went fast!
