In our formation, we learned about the history of the church and why celibacy was imposed.\u00a0 You are right that the cause was simply because of the abuse and\u00a0strong adherence to nepotism being practiced by the leaders of\u00a0the early church.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span>My stand in the present church situation is that the\u00a0church will eventually follow the dictate of the times when it becomes needed.\u00a0The church is guided by the Holy Spirit in all that it does through the Magisterium<\/em> and whatever decision they formulate. We, the faithful, will abide and follow.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span>There has been a strong move by the\u00a0progressive Catholics to consider celibacy as not a requirement for ordination of priests. Looking at the development\u00a0of events,\u00a0 I observe that in our evangelization process, there are several\u00a0 new converts to Catholicism who were priests in their congregations that\u00a0have assumed their ministerial duties as priests in the Catholic\u00a0Church even though they\u00a0are married and have families.\u00a0This arrangement is now acceptable due to the shortage of priests and who knows this relaxation of Church policies may go further at the long run and allow\u00a0celibacy as just an option in the\u00a0ordination to the priesthood.\u00a0Those who will be ordained will be given an option by the church\u00a0whether they want to remain celibate or not.<\/span><\/p>\n I have no qualms about this happening.\u00a0We may elect a\u00a0progressive pope\u00a0who may\u00a0have this arrangement\u00a0imposed.\u00a0We can never tell.<\/span><\/p>\n Of course, we still have to wait for\u00a0the inspiration of the\u00a0Holy Spirit\u00a0who will address this situation in the\u00a0future. <\/span><\/p>\n I\u00a0firmly believe and hope\u00a0that the times\u00a0will be\u00a0coming where there will come\u00a0a major change and development in our worship of the\u00a0faith in the near future.
