The Abbott Government has just passed a milestone it would rather forget, 100 days since Treasurer Joe Hockey handed down one of the most unfair and unpopular Budgets on record.<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter 100 days of blunders, Joe Hockey and Prime Minister Tony Abbott still don\u2019t get it,\u201d Chifley MP Ed Husic said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey have misjudged the public mood and still don\u2019t understand the level of anger directed at this Budget,\u201d Mr Husic added.<\/p>\n
\u201cAustralian families didn\u2019t like this Budget 100 days ago and they don\u2019t like it now.<\/p>\n
\u201cChifley families are being slugged from all directions, whether it be through the Government\u2019s GP Tax, student loans, increased fuel charges, cuts to schools and hospitals or hits to childcare and pensions.<\/p>\n
\u201cWatering the GP Tax down to a lower fee or allowing concessions for some groups as is now being hinted still won\u2019t wash \u2014 It is a bad idea and should be scrapped.<\/p>\n
Since the Budget, Joe Hockey has:<\/p>\n
? compared his unfair GP Tax to beers and smokes;<\/p>\n
? got basic details of the GP tax wrong on Q&A;<\/p>\n
? confessed he wanted to cut harder in the Budget;<\/p>\n
? constantly blamed everyone but himself for his rotten Budget;<\/p>\n
? claimed pensioners would be better off because of his Budget cuts;<\/p>\n
? told the millions of people opposed to his Budget to take a \u201cchill pill\u201d; and<\/p>\n
? claimed poor people don\u2019t drive cars.<\/p>\n
All this while Australia is being run without an Assistant Treasurer since Arthur Sinodinos stood aside.<\/p>\n
\u201cJoe Hockey needs all the help he can get.\u00a0 He is clearly out of depth but trying to take the rest of us with him,\u201d Mr Husic concluded.
