More detailed data has revealed the devastating impact the Abbott Government\u2019s Budget\u00a0will have on many Chifley households, particularly single mothers trying to make ends meet for their families.<\/p>\n
The Australia Institute\u00a0has pulled apart data from three sectors: the\u00a0National Centre\u00a0 for Social\u00a0 and\u00a0 Economic\u00a0 Modelling;\u00a0 the\u00a0 Australian<\/p>\n
Bureau of Statistics\u00a0and; the Census\u00a0and has found women in low and middle income households will be hardest hit by the Budget.<\/p>\n
According to\u00a0the published data,\u00a0a single mother will stand to lose $1 in every $4 lost to the low income bracket through the Budget.<\/p>\n
That equates to a staggering $2566 by 2017 for single Chifley mothers \u2014 against a loss of $77 for women in the wealthiest 20% bracket.<\/p>\n
“Many single mothers are bravely trying to juggle a career plus study as well as meeting the costs of child care. Just as they take one step forward the government’s pushing them two steps back,\u201d Chifley MP Ed Husic said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith every passing week the news for struggling families surrounding this Budget is becoming\u00a0more dire and those who can least afford the cuts in it are bearing the brunt, he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat is even worse out of this latest\u00a0Australia\u00a0Institute study is the figures don\u2019t even factor in the Abbott Government\u2019s GP Tax\u00a0or the Higher Education measures which will block many deserving students from entering tertiary studies to better themselves into the future.<\/p>\n
\u201cMany Chifley families already do it tough \u2014 ripping more than $2500 out of their household budgets will be nothing short of punishing.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere aren\u2019t enough fingers on both hands to count how many sectors of family life that have been targeted in this cruel budget.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe more research that is done on the Budget, the uglier the picture becomes.<\/p>\n
\u201cLabor\u00a0has vowed to fight these retrograde measures and will continue to do so,\u201d Mr Husic concluded.<\/p>\n
