She was fined HK$2,000 (PHP12,143.)<!--more--><\/p>\n<table border=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"210\" height=\"0\"><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><\/td>\n<td><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>The woman, who is from China\u2019s Shaanxi province, was on board a Cathay Pacific Airways flight to Hong Kong from Taipei when she committed the offense, said local media reports.<\/p>\n<p>Officials found the jacket, which was worth HK$350 (PHP2,125), stuffed in her luggage at the security counter and she was later arrested.<\/p>\n<p>In court, the woman claimed that she was not aware that what she did was illegal. She had assumed it was a souvenir and had wanted to bring it back home.<\/p>\n<p>Unimpressed by her claim of ignorance, however, the magistrate found that she was \u201ctoo greedy.\u201d He also said the crime was exacerbated by the fact that a passenger\u2019s life could have been put in danger if Cathay Pacific did not realize that one of the plane\u2019s life jackets had gone missing.<\/p>\n<p>When the defence tried to argue that it was up to the airline to check on its life jackets, Apple Daily reported the magistrate as saying: \u201cEven the airline couldn\u2019t predict that someone would be so out of line as to steal a life jacket.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite claiming that she did not have enough money on her to pay the fine, she was forced to pay up when she was told she could be jailed for a week instead. ? <strong>(Associated Press)<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Passengers beware: Life jackets cannot be kept as souvenirs.
