{"id":4427,"date":"2016-06-04T21:41:36","date_gmt":"2016-06-04T21:41:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.philippinesentinel.org\/?p=4427"},"modified":"2016-06-04T21:41:36","modified_gmt":"2016-06-04T21:41:36","slug":"dutertes-8-point-economic-agenda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.philippinesentinel.org\/?p=4427","title":{"rendered":"Duterte&#8217;s 8-point economic agenda"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Davao City<\/span><\/strong><strong> (CNN Philippines)<\/strong> \u2014 A former agriculture secretary and close friend of presumptive president Rodrigo Duterte disclosed the 8-point economic agenda of the new administration.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In a press briefing in Davao City, <strong>Carlos Dominguez<\/strong>, who is being eyed as the Finance secretary in Duterte&#8217;s Cabinet, said the economic agenda is wide-ranging \u2014 from tax reforms to accelerating infrastructure building to support services for farmers and attracting foreign investments by reducing crime.<\/p>\n<p>He said that while the target economic growth rate is still to be set, the economic agenda is aimed at boosting growth through the following:<\/p>\n<p><strong>1.<\/strong> Continue and maintain the current macroeconomic policies. Reforms in tax revenue collection efforts will be complemented by reforms within the bureaucracy of\u00a0 tax collecting agencies.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.<\/strong> Accelerate spending on infrastructure by addressing major bottlenecks, and maintain the target of setting aside 5% of the country&#8217;s gross domestic product (GDP) to infrastructure spending.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.<\/strong> Ensure attractiveness of the Philippines to <strong>foreign investors, and enhancing competitiveness<\/strong> in doing business in the country. This also means reducing crime to attract investors, and <strong>increase security of businessmen and consumers.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>4.<\/strong> Provide support services to small farmers to increase productivity and improve market access. Provide irrigation and better support services to farmers.
