{"id":4628,"date":"2016-10-04T08:15:03","date_gmt":"2016-10-04T08:15:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.philippinesentinel.org\/?p=4628"},"modified":"2016-10-04T08:15:03","modified_gmt":"2016-10-04T08:15:03","slug":"world-war-ii-in-the-philippines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.philippinesentinel.org\/?p=4628","title":{"rendered":"World War II in the Philippines"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>The Legacy of Two Nations<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Second Annual Conference&amp; Exhibition<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-4629\" title=\"WWII in PH - DEcember 2016\" src=\"http:\/\/www.philippinesentinel.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/WWII-in-PH-DEcember-2016-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"WWII in PH - DEcember 2016\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.philippinesentinel.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/WWII-in-PH-DEcember-2016-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.philippinesentinel.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/WWII-in-PH-DEcember-2016-100x100.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>September 29, 2016\u2013 In commemoration of the 75<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of the invasion of the Philippines (December 8, 1941), Bataan Legacy Historical Society, Memorare Manila 1945, the San Francisco Public Library and the Philippine Consulate General present <em>World War II in the Philippines \u2013 The Legacy of Two Nations<\/em>, The Second Annual Conference.\u00a0 The Conference will take place on Saturday, October 29, 2016from 10AM to 5PMat the Koret Auditorium of the San Francisco Main Public Library at 100 Larkin St. in San Francisco.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Admission is Free but Registration through Eventbrite (WWII in the Philippines\/Bataan Legacy) is recommended. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>An Exhibition, <em>WWII in the Philippines \u2013 The Legacy of Two Nations and the Role of San Francisco during the War<\/em> will open on Saturday, October 15 at 11AM at the Trophy Room of the San Francisco War Memorial Veterans Building located at 401 Van Ness Ave., San Francisco, CA.\u00a0 The exhibition is sponsored by the American Legion War Memorial Commission and the American Legion Eighth District Council, Department of California, in collaboration with Memorare Manila 1945, the National Park Service, the National Japanese American Historical Society, Hamilton Field History Museum and the Philippine Scouts Heritage Society.\u00a0 Lt. Col. John Stevens, a hero of WWII (Midway, Palmyra,Okinawa) and Korean War, will open the exhibition.<\/p>\n<p>The October 29Conferencewill feature speakers from the Philippinesand across the United States who will give different perspectives of the war.\u00a0 Survivors of WWII in the Philippines will speak about their experiences in two panels: Life during the Japanese Occupation and Children of the War.\u00a0 Descendants of Philippine Scouts, Philippine Commonwealth, Filipino guerrillas and nurses will speak about the experiences of their loved ones during the war.\u00a0 Many of these stories have not yet been published.\u00a0 Opening remarks will be made by two retired U.S. Army generals of Filipino descent:\u00a0 Maj. General (Ret.) Antonio Taguba and Maj. General (Ret.)
