At ang paliwanag na iyon ay dapat ibigay sa\ntao<\/em>,&#8221; (If a head of state has a lot of money that is questionable, he should\nexplain the source to his constituents), she said during a voter\u2019s education\nforum at the University of the Philippines Visayas in Iloilo City.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her remarks came after a report from the Philippine Center for Investigative\nJournalism (PCIJ), which examined the wealth of members of the Duterte\nfamily.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sereno also slammed the President for attacking journalists who are critical\nof the administration.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;<em>Mali &#8216;yun kasi parang sa Constitution at sa batas natin, nandoon &#8216;yun\ndapat may pakialam tayo, lalo na sa ganoong klaseng allegations na\nang layo daw ng inilaki ng yaman nila<\/em>,&#8221; (That is wrong because it is clear\nin the law and we should get involved, especially when the allegations state\nthat there was a large jump in their wealth), she said.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But Malaca\u00f1ang Palace spokesman Salvador Panelo merely shrugged off\nthe controversy over Duterte\u2019s wealth.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sereno said these allegations can&#8217;t simply be swept under the rug,\nconsidering some members of the Duterte family are being linked to the\nnarcotics trade.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;<em>At lalong-lalo na ngayon na may alegasyon pa na kailangang\npatunayan na ng pamilya niya na hindi totoong nagkakalat na balita\nna parang ang proteksyon ng droga ay mismo nanggagaling sa mga\nkasama niya sa kanyang pamilya<\/em>,&#8221; (And especially now that there are\nallegations. His family must prove that the news reports are not true but it\nseems that his family is even giving protection to the drug lords), she said.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Presidential spokesman Panelo however said that Duterte\u2019s critics are merely\n\u2018nitpicking\u2019 on the president\u2019s Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net worth.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In its report, the PCIJ noted that President Rodrigo Duterte, daughter Sara\nDuterte-Carpio, and eldest son former Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte\n\u201chave all consistently grown richer over the years, even on the modest\nsalaries they have received for various public posts, and despite the\nnegligible retained earnings reflected in the financial statements of the\ncompanies they own or co-own.\u201d\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sara is seeking re-election as Davao City mayor while Paolo is running for\nthe city&#8217;s first district representative.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The PCIJ noted that across the 10-year period from 2007, the President\u2019s\nwealth nearly tripled, Paolo&#8217;s wealth more than tripled, and Sara\u2019s wealth\ngrew more than 6 times.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Spokesman Panelo said: &#8220;If Atty.
