{"id":5898,"date":"2020-01-28T18:26:22","date_gmt":"2020-01-28T07:26:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.philippinesentinel.org\/?p=5898"},"modified":"2020-01-28T18:26:23","modified_gmt":"2020-01-28T07:26:23","slug":"dengue-epidemic-in-philippines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.philippinesentinel.org\/?p=5898","title":{"rendered":"Dengue epidemic in Philippines"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p style=\"font-size:15px\">MANILA, Philippines \u2014 The Department of Health (DOH) has declared a national dengue epidemic as the cases of the mosquito-borne disease continue to increase.<br><br> Health Secretary Francisco Duque cited 622 deaths and 146,062 cases recorded from January to July 20 this year, or 98% higher than the number of cases recorded in the same period last year.<br><br> Data from DOH showed that Western Visayas had the greatest number of cases with 23,330; Calabarzon with 16,515 cases; Zamboanga Peninsula with 12,317 cases; Northern Mindanao with 11,455; and Soccskargen with 11,083.<br><br> \u201cIt is important that a national epidemic be declared in these areas to identify where a localized response is needed and to enable local government units to use their Quick Response Fund to address the epidemic situation,\u201d Duque said in a press briefing at the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council headquarters in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.philippinesentinel.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/0919_ArtImg_DenguePH.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5900\" width=\"567\" height=\"328\"\/><figcaption>A ward at Eastern Samar Provincial Hospital in Borongan City is full of dengue patients and their families.
