Pacquiao to fight Mosley in Las Vegas on May 7 by Dino Crescini

Many Filipinos in the Blacktown area of New South Wales will again be swarming all over the Diamond Auditorium of Blacktown Workers Club to watch the pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao fight Shane Mosley on May 7 this year. As in the past, the fight will be broadcast live on the club’s large television screen but because of the difference in time zone between Sydney and Las Vegas, actual live telecast will happen on Sunday, the 8th of May 2011. No entrance fee is expected and the Bungaribee International Buffet Restaurant which is adjacent to the Diamond Auditorium is expected to be jampacked with boxing aficionados.

Promoter Bob Arum said that Pacquiao will take on Mosley – a former champion in three divisions for the World Boxing Organization welterweight title. If Pacquiao wins as he is expected to win, it will be the 9th world title for the Filipino boxing hero who has just received the Congressional Medal of Distinction at the House of Representatives on November 22, 2010.

Mosley, a 39-year-old American, has a fight record of 46-6 with one draw and 39 knockouts while Filipino superstar Pacquiao has 52-3 with two draws and 38 knockouts.

“Pac-Man,” as he is now popularly called, has won 13 fights in a row. The southpaw has not lost in a span of six years. We have seen him dispatch boxing legends like Oscar de la Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Miguel Cotto, Juan Manuel Marquez and his latest conquest Antonio Margarito whose face he clobbered to a pulp.

Floyd Mayweather has twice failed to come to terms on a fight deal with Manny Pacquiao. That is the bout that the world wants to see but it seems that the unbeaten Mayweather is really afraid to fight Manny Pacquiao. So far, he has come up with a lot of unreasonable demands and poor excuses and we have yet to see the fight materialize.
