Five Ateneo graduates top bar examinations

MANILA, PHILIPPINES. Out of 4,847 aspiring lawyers who took the 2010 Bar Examinations, only 982 passed and would soon be allowed to practice the legal profession in the Philippines.

Comparatively, there were 1,451 who passed in 2009 out of 5,903 examinees.

The top two slots were taken by Ateneo de Manila University graduates Cesario Antonio Singzon Jr. and Filemon Rey Javier.

Among the other successful candidates in the top 12 were Paolo Carlo Tolentino, Arellano University; Janet Angco, Ateneo de Davao University; Joanna Sunga, Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU); Christine Pob¬lacion, University of the Philippines (UP); Maria Ursua, UP; Krystal Uy, UP; Joanna Capones, UP; William Gan, AdMU; Glenn Carampatan, University of San Carlos and Karen Palicpic, Arellano University.

It was reported that the passing grade was lowered to 72.5 per cent instead of 75% in the previous years. In spite of this, success rate was still low at only 20% compared to 2009 when 25 per cent of the examinees passed.
