Blacktown City Community Band (BCCB) competed in the First Heat of the Music & Arts Junior Talent Search which was sponsored by Clubs NSW. The competition was held on 12 October 2008 at Blacktown RSL Club. For winning the First Heat, BCCB is now entitled to further compete at the Club Finals on 29 March 2009.

During the contest, the BCCB played an impressive rendition of Mission Impossible and Boogie Wonderland which was arranged by Maestro Jun Javier of the Jun Javier Music School in Glendenning. The band did not just play the music but also danced as choreographed by Regina Javier.

Some members of the band who also competed for individual entries were also selected to compete into the Club Finals. They are Geleena Buhat and Bernadette Marquez who both sang solo. Bernard Harrison played drums and trumpet. Apart from singing, Gianelle Buhat also played the saxophone. She, together with Clarissa Bock and Joanne Eden sang as a trio.

Parents, family friends and their children were very supportive of the band. Everyone cheered the BCCB to victory. The Band is confident of winning the Grand Finals. They are actively raising funds for their planned performance in the United States next year.
