Ed Husic elected Government Whip (A press release from the ALP)

Federal Member for Chifley Ed Husic has been elected Government Whip this week by his Labor caucus colleagues.

Mr Husic said he felt very humbled by his election and the support he received from his colleagues, particularly considering that he’s a first-term MP.

“I’m honoured to be able to serve the Government in this role and to contribute to the workings of the Parliament,” Mr Husic said.

“I look forward to working with the Chief Government Whip Joel Fitzgibbon and Government Whip Jill Hall in helping manage the Government’s legislative agenda in the House of Representatives.”

The role of Government Whips is to arrange the number and order of Members who wish to speak or debate in the Main Committee; ensuring the attendance of Government members for divisions and quorum calls and to act as tellers during divisions.

The vacancy for whip was triggered by the resignation of former Government Whip Chris Hayes to take up a role as Chair of the Joint Standing Committee on Law Enforcement.
