Australia helps Filipino families affected by floods

Australia is helping to deliver critical assistance to families affected by the flood crisis in the Philippines.

The Australian Government today announced that our country would provide blankets, mosquito nets, hygiene kits, water containers, kitchen sets, sandbags and health services to the eight million people in desperate need across the Mekong and the Philippines.

Federal Member for Chifley, Ed Husic announced Australia’s commitment of foreign aid to our flood effected neighbours.

“Many communities have been devastated by major flooding and there is a real of disease from contaminated water supplies and damaged sanitation systems,” Mr Husic said.

“I know the local Filipino community has been rallying to raise funds to help loved ones in the Philippines recover from this disaster.”

“I was delighted to be able to join with the community last Friday at Bowman Hall for the Lift Off Hip Hop Festival – which helped raise much needed funds for victims of these terrible events.”

Australian support will be directed through partner organisations with a track record in providing disaster response and recovery services in the most affected areas and to the most vulnerable people.
