Youth’s chance of a lifetime by Jaime Kelly Pimentel

FILIPINO-Australian youth would get a chance of a lifetime from a dramatic glimpse into the life of the Philippines’ man for all seasons in the closing days of 2011 in Sydney.

In what may be described as a world’s first to celebrate 150 years since the martyrdom of Dr Jose Rizal in 1896, a number Filipino radio programs across Sydney are coordinating to produce a two-hour dramatic depiction of the hero’s life in words, sounds and music.

Young audiences in Sydney would relate to the original R’n’B, rap, and rock music of local band leader Oliver Gadista in a creative interplay with indigenous Filipino operatic music, folklore, and theatrical forms such as moro-moro and traditional Filipino sports like sipa and arnis martial arts.
