Filipino boxer won but was mobbed by the local crowd

Argentina. February 11, 2012

. It was clearly a technical knockout, having floored his Argentinean opponent twice in the 9th round and again on the 10th when the fight was stopped by the referee.

It was total insanity and disgrace demonstrated by the local spectators who mobbed and threw bottles and other projectiles to the 21-yr old Filipino boxer.

Johnriel Casimero (16-2, 10 KO) won the vacant IBF Light Flyweight title in Mar de Plata, Argentina against 40-yr. old Luis Lazarte (49-11-2, 18 KO).

Lazarte of Argentina is known to be one of the dirtiest fighters in the world.

At one point, when the referee gave Lazarte a point deduction, the boxer said to the referee: “Do you want to stay alive?”

Promoter Gello-ani recalled their ordeal, “Bottles and chairs were flying. Lazarte is a member of the trucker’s union and the rioters were his friends. I was kicked, Pingping (trainer Cristopher Tepora) was punched. But we are safe now and we are guarded by the local police.”

“The three of us suffered bruises,” Gello-ani said. “But I can take it, we can take it. We are celebrating Johnriel’s victory. This is a birthday gift that he will offer to the entire Filipino nation.”
