All in the Name of Charity by Benjie de Ubago

It was a mega-musical extravaganza with some of the very best Filipino entertainers together at Blacktown RSL last 3 March, performing for the Philippine Community Council of NSW’s PADER “Help” Charity Event.

Rod Dingle along with co-host, Susie Smithers introduced one performer after another:  Clarissa Bock, Cleo Diana, Bobby Harrison, Angelo Refuerzo and the diabolical Karate Kidz.  Then Ms. Lillian de los Reyes charmed the audience as always with a song, a wiggle and a collection bucket on one hand. But Marilyn Mendez, Dex de Rosa and the ever vibrant Louie George simply blew the audience away. And they got nothing less than a well-deserved standing ovation.

The Philippine National Rugby League Tamaraws were crowd pleasers as they obliged to pose for photos in return for donations. One of the Tamaraws who posed with Ms. Lillian said, “My mum will love this photo with Lillian.”

“This was definitely worth more than the $15.00 a ticket,” said Chairman of the event, Mr. Mao de Vera when he stepped up on stage to thank all those who contributed to the cause.

The Consul General Anne Jalando-on Louis and the entire staff of the Philippine Consulate Sydney were present to show their support for the event. Mr. Richard Etch, Operations Manager of the NSW Rural Fire Service, a part beneficiary of the event was also on hand to watch the show.

The Philippine Australian Disaster Emergency Response (PADER) charity event  raised more than $12,000. The proceeds will go to the typhoon and to the NSW Rural Fire Service Australia. Left over monies would help replenish the PADER coffers for immediate relief assistance for future emergencies.

Mr. Atoy Sayas, 2012 President of the PCC-NSW extends his thanks to all those who helped and supported the PADER cause.
