Dr. Julie Nunez, PhD receives Chifley Volunteer Award 2008

by Dino Crescini

Blacktown, NSW. June 12, 2009. For the many years that she has been in Australia, Dr. Julie Nunez has been a quiet achiever and a generous provider of her services as a volunteer. In spite of her busy schedule as a full time employee of the NSW Department of Housing, Julie has always found time to volunteer her services to various civic and religious organisations in the community whenever the opportunity presents itself.

Julie volunteered her time and services as an Accreditation Officer during the Sydney Olympics 2000. In July 2008, she has also offered her services as a Community World Youth Day Volunteer during which time she assisted hundreds of visitors who came from overseas.

Dr. Nunez has shown strong leadership qualities and continues to provide personal time and services as president of the Philippine Australian Community Services, Inc. (PACSI). She is also an active member of the board of the Philippine Health Care Association of Australia, and the Ateneo Alumni Association of Sydney. She has founded the Chavacano Association of Australia in her effort to make the members aware of their responsibilities to the community.

For all her achievements as a tireless volunteer, Federal Member for Chifley Roger Price presented to Dr. Julie Nunez her much-deserved award in simple ceremonies held at the Blacktown City Council on 12 June, 2009, a date which coincided with the 111th Anniversary of Philippine Independence.
