ADOLP celebrates YULETIDE

Members and friends of the Australian Devotees of Our Lady of Peñafrancia (ADOLP) had a meaningful celebration of Christmas by remembering the survivors of the calamity that hit Tacloban. They passed the hat around for voluntary contributions.

Benedictine alumnae Norma Evans and Neria Soliman talked about the predicaments of the Benedictine nuns who manage the Divine Word Hospital. At the moment, it is the only hospital operating in the area and they are very much in need of equipment lost in the flood. Ms Soliman was a centennial awardee of St. Scholastica’s College in 2006.

In his welcome speech, ADOLP President Doc Tito Soliman (pictured above) awarded a plaque of appreciation to St. Nicholas of Myra Church where the Image of Our Lady has been enthroned for the last 7years. Fr. Matthew and Fr. Joe of the congregation of La Salle received the honour. A plaque was also awarded to Ms Jan Doy of the Pendragon boats for the annual fluvial procession support.

ADOLP Past President Jun Relunia joined Doc Tito in the awarding and gift giving to the priests and church coordinator.

A lavish spread of food on the buffet table welcomed all the guests. Two special guests from Manila, Ray and Amy Iglesia were also present. Mr Ross Iglesia who is immediate past Chairperson of Bicol Inc. represented the general membership along with the current Chairperson Ms Neria Soliman. A well-decorated 2-layered Christmas cake, compliments of Benedith Cake was a treat to all.

The program ended with the members dancing to Christmas Carols led by Noe Adan and Mely Adan playing the organ. The song ‘Ang PASKO AY SUMAPIT’ set the Christmas mood for more sharing and exchange of gifts.
