The Abbott Government has broken its promise to deliver faster broadband by 2016, said Mr Ed Husic, Member of Parliament for Chifley.
“Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull has already let down Woodcroft and Doonside residents, who were promised faster internet via the NBN. Now the rest of the country has been let down,” said Mr Husic.
During its release of the National Broadband Network (NBN) Strategic Review Malcolm Turnbull told Parliament just 26 percent of Australian households and businesses will now receive the Coalition’s “very fast internet”, promised prior to the September election.
“Malcolm Turnbull has admitted they won’t meet their promise to have all Australian premises connected to 25 megabits per second internet speed by 2016.
“This is yet another Coalition broken promise,” Mr Husic said.
“My phone has been ringing off the hook in my electorate office from residents angered by the fact their promised very fast internet now is not coming to their homes,” Mr Husic added.
“They have been abandoned and many who were promised the fastest possible internet now won’t even get it.
“Entire pockets of suburbs have disappeared off NBN maps in our electorate.
“Tony Abbott and Malcolm Turnbull told the Australian people that the Coalition would keep its commitments, without excuses.
“The “MTM” (Malcolm Turnbull Model) of broadband outlined by Malcolm Turnbull will now not be completed until 2020.
“The debt ceiling, boats, education funding and now the NBN roll-out, this Abbott Government keeps breaking promises — and within months of being elected,” said Ed Husic.
