Chifley Families to be hardest hit by a GP Tax by Roger White

Families in the electorate of Chifley would be forced to find more than eight million dollars a year to visit their GP, according to figures unveiled by the Federal Opposition.

“That is because doctors realise the importance of affordable healthcare for families,” Federal Member of Parliament Ed Husic added.

“This GP tax of Tony Abbott’s would, by design, hit families who can afford it least.

“I will continue to oppose anything that even looks like forcing my constituents to pay extra to see their GP when they need it.

“All Australian taxpayers should receive the healthcare they deserve, not just the healthcare the Abbott Government reckons it can afford.

“It seems Health Minister Peter Dutton only knows how to take money out of Chifley, not put it in.

“The Abbott Government would take more than eight million dollars out of Chifley households, as well as the six million dollars we have already lost in the withdrawal of funding for the MRI unit at Mt Druitt Hospital,” Mr Husic concluded.

Effects of the new GP Tax

by Catherine King, Shadow Minister for Health

This is only the first step in their attack on Medicare and will open the floodgates for the Liberals to dismantle universal healthcare even further.

Tony Abbott’s new GP Tax will:

? Make it harder for families to see their GP

? Increase pressure on family budgets

? Put additional stress on hospital emergency wards and public

hospitals

Families deserve access to the healthcare they need, not just the healthcare they can afford.

Together we will always fight for Medicare. We won’t let Tony Abbott rip apart Medicare piece by piece.Labor is proudly the party of Medicare, we increased bulk-billing to the highest rates ever, and we will continue to protect Australia’s universal healthcare system.
