There is at present a move by some quarters to push for a reciprocal agreement between the Philippines and Australia regarding the portability of Australian pension which at this time is limited to only 13 weeks. It used to be 26 weeks.
Nobody, but nobody so far has bothered to mention that once approved by both governments, Fil-Aussie pensioners may LOSE their pension from the Social Security System (SSS) in the Philippines. As of now, they enjoy the benefits of receiving both from Australia and the Philippines.
Fil-Aussie pensioners should be made aware of this.
The bottom line is: The Philippine government has everything to gain because SSS can stop paying Fil-Aussie pensioners while Australia will have to continue paying Fil-Aussie pensioners indefinitely, especially those who decide to retire in the Philippines.
