Rebulado heads to Melbourne for golf tourney

As his girth keeps shrinking, his game keeps improving and that’s fine by Lexus Cup National Finalist and Series One overall highest point scorer Alvin Rebulado._5D_8365
Alvin, a member at Stonecutters Ridge Golf Club in Sydney, will be heading to Royal Melbourne in November after racking up an impressive 131,015 points over the 15 weeks of competition.

The now 16 marker has dropped nine shots off his handicap since April but, more importantly, has also lost almost 25 kilos off his frame since August last year.

Advised by his doctor that his weight was going to become a serious health issue if he didn’t address it, Alvin set about reducing his waistline and did his golf game a whole lot of good along the way.

“I was 150 kilos and even though I was quite active the doctor told me I needed to lose quite a bit of weight or it was going to be a real problem,” says Alvin.

“I’ve worked really hard at it and I’m ahead of my target which was to get to 130 kilos by August this year so that’s a positive.

“But It’s really improved my golf as well. I have a lot more energy for the whole round and my swing generally is much more free. It’s been a real win-win situation.”

Alvin says losing weight and improving at golf share some similarities, most notable the need to be disciplined in your approach.

“They’re a bit similar in that way,” he says. “You have to work at both. You don’t lose weight without doing the work and you can’t improve your golf without doing some work either.”

Alvin now tips the scales at 123 kilos and is aiming to get to 110 kilos by the end of the year.

“It’s a bit like golf in that way, too,” he says. “The more weight I lose the harder it gets to lose the next bit and the same with golf.

“It’s easier to get from 27 to 20 than it is to get from 16 to 9 but the challenge of it is part of the enjoyment.”
