Fil-collegiate basketball returns with a vengeance by Ray Policarpio

A MUCH larger field forms the Filipino Collegiate Alumni Basketball Cup challenge this year at Marrickville Police-Citizens Youth Club leisure centre, which kicked off on Sunday, March 29, 2015.

Semi-finals will take place the following Sunday, April 2, and the finals on Sunday, April 19.

Mapua Cardinals and the Ateneo Sea Eagles seek revenge against last year’s champion Angeles Universities Selection. The games had been very tightly contested matches, with winning margins in most games only one or two points.

Throwing in a new challenge will be alumni teams from Philippine schools La Salle, Adamson, University of the Philippines, Jose Rizal, and Tech Pilipinas.

This writer promises that it will be a much more competitive field. The event will take on a more colourful program.

A parade of teams opened ceremonies on Sunday, March 29, with team muses leading each team.

Immediately after the finals, an awards presentation to the champion and runner-up teams will be held.
Elimination games will be played in a single round-robin format, with the first and second finishers from each group doing cross-over semi-final games. The winners will play the grand final game.

Teams will play in two separate groups at the eliminations:

Group A — Ateneo Sea Eagles, De La Salle NSW Alumni Archers, UP Alumni Maroons, and Adamson Alumni Falcons.

Group B — Angeles Universities Alumni, Mapua Alumni Cardinals, Jose Rizal University Alumni Bombers, and Tech Pilipinas.
