Aaron Rebulado: future chess grandmaster

One of the most awaited events in junior chess was held at the Cranbrook School in Sydney last January 13 – 25, 2008. The Australian Junior Chess Championship (AJCC), organized by the Australian Chess Federation is restricted to endorsed junior amateurs under 18 years of age. There were 169 participants, 55 of those were Under 12 Open Division and 114 were Under 18.

Aaron Rebulado, an 8-year old student from Toongabbie Christian School and the only Filipino participant in the competition played in the U12 division.

Aaron’s last tournament record was during the Education Expo Chess Challenge in Rosehill Gardens where he finished 3rd place in the 7yr old category and 9th place in the junior division. Over 160 participants played in the 7 games series. Aaron is part of the Toongabbie Christian School chess team and the youngest member so far in the entire history of the team.

AJCC is a national tournament held in a different state every year. The last time Sydney hosted AJCC was in 2002. Aaron is the son of Alvin and Marissa Rebulado of Glendenning.
