UST Singers sing of Hope and Joy

They are the pride of the Filipino; the embodiment of the Filipino spirit — The University of Santo Tomas Singers will be touring Australia this month with performances in Melbourne and Sydney. The UST Singers, internationally-acclaimed and multi-awardees, will be performing in Sydney on 14 August 2016 at the Blacktown Workers Club, at 2pm. The show is proudly presented by the UST Alumni Association of Australia in cooperation with the Filipino Community Cooperative Ltd and FILCOS Bankstown.

Founded in 1992, the UST Singers, under the baton of its founder and conductor, Prof. Fidel Gener Calalang Jr., is the University’s premiere mixed choral ensemble. The choral group is composed of a select group of students and alumni representing the different colleges and faculties of Asia’s oldest university, the Pontifical and Royal University of Santo Tomas, which was established in 1611.

Since 1993, UST Singers have performed in more than 30 countries around the world making them the Philippines’ cultural ambassadors of goodwill.  With voices in perfect harmony and singing of Filipino heritage worldwide, they’ve brought pride not only to their school but to the Philippines.

The choral group has put together a repertoire of exceptional interpretations that cover significant parts of Philippine choral literature of the last five centuries, which have resulted to the group’s triumphs in various international choral competitions. They have brought home numerous international awards including the Grand Pavarotti Prize in the Choir of the World Competition in 1995 and 2010. At the 2015 Florence International choral Festival, it was a clean sweep with them bagging the Grand Prix and three other special awards.

The show is guaranteed to rekindle the Thomasian spirit in all UST alumni and will also undoubtedly bring pride to every Filipino.

The events in Melbourne and Sydney are sponsored by Western Union who are happy to sponsor such events that highlight the best of the Philippines.
