Filipino Press Club sends money for Maguindanao journalists

“It’s not the amount but the thought that counts,” said Jaime K. Pimentel, chairman of the Filipino Press Club of Sydney. He coordinated the pooling of resources contributed by members of the group and other community leaders who donated cash for the grieving families of journalists who were massacred in Maguindanao.

Total amount collected was $1,330 which was personally delivered by Renato Perdon of Bayanihan News to Luis Logarta, President of the National Press Club of the Philippines.

In his letter to Logarta, Mr. Pimentel wrote: “It is our small way of demonstrating our solidarity with journalists in the Philippines.” “Those brave journalists who died, will not be forgotten in our corner of the world,” he concluded.

The contributors whose names were mentioned in the letter were: Cen Amores, Cathy Caluca, Violi Calvert, Romy Cayabyab of the Filipino Australian, Dino Crescini of Philippine Sentinel, Lito Cruz, Titus Filio of News Pinoy, Friends of the Philippine Community Council of NSW (PCC), Teng Loste, Carol Manaloto, Ronald Manila of SBS Radio, Raul Manongdo, Nonoy Perdon of Bayanihan News, Jaime Pimentel of Radio Sandigan, Emman Rivera, Rusty of APO Club, Ronaldo Villaver of PCC, and Ms Edna Voros. In a related development, Neria Soliman sent a $300 donation from Hot Mamaz while Cen Amorez of PCC sent in another $1,350 bringing the total donations for Maguindanao journalists to $2,980.
