Donate FLIP FLOPS for a cause by Marie Rea

OVERSEAS PINOYS CARE MOVEMENT was formed by yours truly in the internet via Facebook. It aims to share with poor and needy Filipinos some of the blessings we enjoy in our adopted countries. We have members and supporters from more than 20 countries all over the world. They are Filipinos and other nationalities alike.

Our initial project is FLIP FLOPS FOR A CAUSE. We hope to collect and distribute flip flops to poor schoolchildren and their families in the Philippines, specifically in the province of Laguna. Flip Flops are also known as thongs or Japanese sandals or slippers. These can be old but wearable, or new, preferably in kids’ or small sizes. Our objective is at least 500 pairs by Christmas 2010. We hope to get enough to send before the start of the Philippine school year in June.

There are 2 organisations in the province of Laguna that are involved in Outreach Programs. Please make sure that the Flip Flops are clean and washed before sending them to either of the following:

It won’t cost much to send the flip flops but it will make a big difference
to the lives of many Filipinos at least in Laguna. You are welcome to nominate areas in the Philippines which you know will welcome our little offerings, subject to some conditions.

We take those simple footwears for granted but they are very valuable in
making life a bit more comfortable for those poor schoolkids! Many go to school barefoot because they are unable to buy something that can cost as little as $2 to $5 dollars a pair! The cost of a cup of coffee is even higher!

Please note that there is no money involved. I shall be paying for the cost of postage to the Philippines as my personal contribution. My family has already set aside a dozen pairs for this project. Depending on the response from our readers, we can also organize a meeting in the Philippines sometime before Christmas to personally distribute the flip flops.

Other unwanted goods that may include toys, school bags, lunch boxes or even pre-loved shoes are also welcome. Please send an email to:
kumaritess@yahoo.com so we can organize a pick up from your doorstep.

You might have some friends and relatives in the Philippines who can help promote this project. Please let them know. What are you waiting for? Go raid your shoe cupboard and donate your unwanted flip flops now!

For those who have internet connection, please visit our website and join our movement: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=339097785760

Another drop off point for donated flip flops is:
3/5 Wongala Crescent, Beecroft NSW 2119
