Independence Day Celebrations

The Philippine Community Council of NSW (PCC) will be leading the way again in the celebration of the 112th anniversary of Philippine Independence Day on 12 June 2010.

As has been in the past years, the Flag ceremony will be held on Saturday morning at 11am at Blacktown. The annual event will be held in cooperation with Blacktown City Council.

The day’s events will culminate in the traditional Philippine National Day Ball which will be held on the evening of 12 June and will be held at Rosehill Gardens, Rosehill. Special guest for the evening is RJ Rosales, who’s made a name for himself in Miss Saigon and who is here in Sydney for the play on Rizal. The formal occasion is attended by politicians and diplomats of both the Philippine and Australian governments. The PCC has been holding the Independence Day Ball for the last 20 years.

This year, the “Baile de Independencia,” the traditional rigodon dance featuring community leaders will feature some of the Philippines’ national heroes. “We shall highlight the heroes of change – those men and women who have had the courage to change. Their brave actions have paved the way into making the Philippines into what it is today,” said Elsa Collado, president of PCC.

With a new group of individuals on the Board, all eager to bring back the good old Filipino values, the National Day Ball promises to have a new exciting feel. “It’s a fresh start for everyone and that’s pretty exciting,” said a spokesperson for the group.
