Computers in local schools at risk from Tony Abbott

The future of 974 laptop computers earmarked for High Schools in the Chifley Electorate are at risk if the Liberals were to win this year’s election.

To date, the Rudd Government has funded 3,100 computers which are now being used by students in Years 9, 10, 11 and 12 in all 27 local High Schools.

Speaking in Federal Parliament, Member for Chifley Roger Price said, “But, sadly, $700 million earmarked for the Digital Education Revolution has been cut by Tony Abbott.”

“So the rollout of 974 computers, which would ensure that every student in my electorate in those particular years has their own computer, has sadly been earmarked by the coalition to be cut.”

“That is going to disadvantage these students, and these students, more than in the North Shore, more than in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney and perhaps even more than in the southern suburbs of Sydney, really do need to have access to computers.”

Mr Price told Parliament that a lack of computers and internet access in Chifley homes made Chifley an information poor community.

“In the age of the information revolution, young people who are not savvy about computers, and all that they are capable of delivering, really do not face good prospects in the world of work,” Mr Price said. – ?
