Popular TV show scrapped

, Philippines – It’s definitely goodbye for a popular daily noontime show as the television network that launched it decided to replace it starting on July 31, 2010.

In an official statement, ABS-CBN said that “Pilipinas For The Win (PFTW) would take the place of “Wowowee.”

The new program was described as a “game and variety show that would give Filipinos happiness and hope,” network officials said.

It added that former “Wowowee” host Willie Revillame has been informed of the development through his manager.

“Si Willie Revillame, sa pamamagitan ng kanyang manager, ay nasabihan na tungkol sa pagbabagong ito,” ABS-CBN said.

The management of ABS-CBN added that hosting of the new program would be given to Revillame at the right time.

The new show will have action star Robin Padilla and Kris Aquino as its hosts, along with former mainstays of “Wowowee” Mariel Rodriguez, Valerie Concepcion and comedian Pokwang.

Padilla became a temporary host of “Wowowee” for a week following Revillame’s sudden departure from the show after a much-publicized dispute with showbiz radio commentator Jobert Sucaldito.

At the helm of PFTW are Director Johnny Manahan, creative Director Edgar Mortiz, Business Unit Head Jay Montelibano, Executive Producers Phoebe Anievas and Rancy Recato.

“Wowowee” first went on air in 2005. In 2006, 71 people were killed in a stampede at the Ultra Stadium in Pasig City during the first year anniversary show of the popular noontime program. (Radio Inquirer) ?
