Filipino American wins Olympic Gold

Natalie Coughlin, 24, of San Francisco, California, successfully defended her Olympic title by winning the Gold Medal in the 100 Meter Backstroke Event in the Beijing Olympics. She also won Silver in the 400 Metre Relay the day before. She won this 100 Metre Backstroke Event in 2004 in the Athens Olympics. It’s her specialty.

Natalie is half Filipino, her dad is American and her mother is from the Philippines, but Natalie was born in California. When interviewed during the Sydney Olympics in 2000, after winning the 100 metre backstroke competition, she said that her Filipino mother made her eat rice and eggs for breakfast.
