Filipino gay group comes out by Jaime K Pimentel

The Filipino Gay and Lesbian Community group, Flagcom, went on air this New Year to launch a segment on a radio program in Sydney’s inner-west.

In an interview on 2RDJ-FM’s Radio Sandigan program, Flagcom managing director Albert Prias told broadcaster Violi Calvert that he had agreed to do a 10-minute segment on Flagcom activities relevant to both the Filipino community in Sydney and the Australian main stream radio audience.

”Our members want to come out and broadcast our involvement and contribution to the community,” Mr Prias said. ”Flagcom is made up of not only members of the gay and lesbian community but also of people supportive of the gay and lesbian community.

”We are happy to be recognised by Radio Sandigan. I think the segment on the program will help us gain better acceptance in society. The gay and lesbian community, unfortunately, continues to be maligned in many segments of our society today.”

Mr Prias recorded the first 10-minute segment, which went on air on Friday, January 14. Radio Sandigan broadcasts every Friday, from 9am and 10am.
