College games come to town

THE inaugural Philippine University-Collegiate Basketball Cup takes place on Saturday-Sunday, June 7-8, at the Police-Citizens Youth Club (PCYC) sports centre in Sydney’s inner-city suburb of Marrickville.

The competition will pit four school teams: Ateneo, Mapua, La Salle, and Angeles comprising alumni, sons of alumni, and fathers of students or former students.

“San Beda and University of the Philippines could not field full teams but will be two of several who would enter the competition next year,” said Cup organiser Raymond Policarpio.

”Preliminaries are scheduled at 1pm on the opening day. Semi-finals and finals will be held at 1pm on Sunday.”

The Cup will run on the same days as the FilOz Men’s championships to be held in the mornings of Saturday and Sunday at Marrickville PCYC sports centre.

Playing for the Ateneo team is Lorenzo Asalemo, 15-year-old grandson of the editor of Philippine Sentinel. ###
