Australian citizen and businessman turned politician, was killed by an assassin’s bullet in front of his office in the presence of his wife and son.
According to witnesses, at least six gunshots were heard before Arrogante fell dead and slumped to the ground. His wife Juliet tried to stop the man from further shooting her husband. She tried to hit him with a plastic chair but the gunman simply pushed her aside and continued shooting. A .45 caliber pistol was used by the gunman who walked casually after the shooting incident.
Arrogante was rushed to the District Hospital but he was declared dead on arrival.
As of press time, the motive for the killing has not yet been established. Detectives from the National Bureau of Investigation have gone to Cebu and are coordinating with the local police in investigating the crime.
At the funeral
Hundreds of friends, supporters and relatives attended the March 17 burial of slain businessman Renerio “Gogong” Arrogante III in Daanbantayan, Cebu. People were chanting justice for his death.
Placards were set up in various parts of the town, all of which carried messages that demand justice for Arrogante’s death.
At the funeral, Renerio IV described his father’s love for Daanbantayan that he wanted to stay most of the time in the town although they have a house in Cebu City.
