Who is really behind the Dacer-Corbito Murder? by Dino Crescini, BS, MBA

Former police officers Cesar Mancao and Glenn Dumlao have linked Senator Panfilo Lacson as the mastermind behind the killing of Salvador Bubby” Dacer and his driver Emmanuel Corbito some 10 years ago. But does the buck really stop there? Both Mancao and Dumlao were former members of the now defunct Presidential Anti-Organised Crime Task Force (PAOCTF). The heinous killing happened during the term of former president Joseph Estrada.

Before he was brutally murdered, Dacer was a fearless journalist who wrote about the Estrada administration. His attacks on the president have remained unparalleled to this day. He wrote his stories inside his room at the Manila Hotel. Then suddenly he went missing. His Toyota Revo was later found dumped in the outskirts of Cavite.

Double-murder charges have been filed at the Manila Regional Trial Court against Senator Ping Lacson by the Department of Justice (DOJ) in connection with the twin killings.

Based on an affidavit executed by ex-policeman Cesar Mancao, the deaths of Dacer and Corbito were masterminded by Senator Ping Lacson, who at the time of murder was chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP). As PNP chief, Lacson reported directly to then president Joseph Estrada whom Dacer in his column, accused of insider trading in the stock market.

Once the court issues a warrant, Lacson cannot use congressional immunity to shield himself from arrest, it was reported in GMA News.

Lacson cannot invoke Article 6, Section 11 of the 1987 Constitution which guarantees immunity for law makers because the punishment for murder is more than six years.

Estrada implicated by Dacer’s daughters

A criminal complaint against former president Joseph Estrada has been filed by Dacer’s daughters Carina, Sabina Dacer-Reyes, Emily Dacer-Hungerford and Amparo Dacer-Henson through the Consul General’s offices in New York and California where they now live.

It is interesting to note that the filing of the criminal complaint somehow coincided with Estrada’s filing of his certificate of candidacy to run for president. The daughters however denied any political undertone.

Estrada was ousted by a popular People’s Revolution dubbed as EDSA II after serving a term of only 2 years. He was later on convicted of economic plunder but was pardoned by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, barely a week after he was declared guilty by the court.

Dacer and his driver, Emmanuel Corbito, were snatched on the South Superhighway in November 2000 and taken to Indang, Cavite, where they were killed and their bodies burned.

Dacer was reported to be on his way to reveal Estrada’s supposed role in an insider trading scandal when he was abducted.

Estrada was driven from power by a military—backed people power revolt in 2001. He was convicted of plunder in 2007, but was pardoned just a week later by Gloria Arroyo, his vice president who succeeded him to the presidency.
