Philippine Nurses Association of Australia Inc. resigns from PCC-NSW

As seen on the March 2020 issue of Philippine Tribune

Amid the controversy surrounding the election of officers of the Philippine Community Council of NSW, the Philippine Nurses Association of Australia (PNAA) appears to have left PCC-NSW in disgust.

Nelma Gallas, a registered nurse and acting president of PNAA, wrote an official letter addressed to the Officer-in-charge of PCC-NSW saying that the PNAA Board had made the “decision to withdraw membership” from the Filipino organisation. It seemed deliberate that the letter was not addressed to the president-elect of PCC-NSW.

Mr. Alfred Silvino, Founding Director of Philippine Health Care Association of Australia (PHCAA) and PNAA, informed Philippine Tribune that the Returning Officer of PCC-NSW snubbed the representation and intention of Dr. Julie Nuñez, OAM to vote during the elections held last February 16.

In an email, a former office bearer of PCC-NSW wrote that Dr. Nuñez, being a distinguished OAM has a lot more credibility than someone who is a mere member of an ethnic group. Nuñez was authorised by Marvin Ang, incumbent president of PNAA to vote on his behalf. He was overseas. /rmc
